Abstract

It is demonstrated that a reversal in the ordering of the mean evaporative fluxes of central and outer droplets is not the same phenomenon as the loss of hydrodynamic stability. Based on a published study of elongated droplets, a bounded dimensionless indicator of inversion is introduced, and its sign and sensitivity to measurement uncertainty are analyzed. Two independent criteria are formulated for comparing integral transport and examining the perturbation spectrum. The abstract does not present a newly computed stability diagram.
