Abstract

This article examines the trends in the formation of household debt burdens in Uzbekistan, the financial risks associated with the expansion of lending to individuals, and the need for macroprudential regulation of these risks. The economic significance of the debt service-to-income ratio (DSTI), debt-to-income ratio (DTI), and loan-to-value ratio (LTV) in assessing household debt burdens is discussed. The impact of macroprudential requirements introduced by the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan on borrowers and the stability of the banking system is analyzed. The study substantiates the need to move from an approach based on individual indicators to a comprehensive system that applies DSTI, DTI, and LTV indicators in an integrated manner when assessing household debt burdens.
