Abstract
The article examines the mechanisms of adapting an ancient foreign text in a Russian-speaking cultural and literary environment using the example of Aesop's fables. It analyzes the main translation and interpretation strategies employed by Russian authors and translators, and identifies structural, semantic, and pragmatic transformations influenced by the cultural context of the receiving audience. Based on the conducted research, the article proposes a model for adapting a foreign text that includes stages of linguistic, cultural, and genre-stylistic processing.
