Abstract
This article is devoted to the lexical units denoting military ranks in the English and Uzbek languages, their origins, and their similarities and differences. The purpose of the article is to demonstrate that, from a linguocultural perspective, lexical units denoting military ranks in English and Uzbek are not merely terminological units indicating the military hierarchy, but can also acquire metaphorical meanings in everyday speech and serve as means of expressing various social and cultural relations.
