THE ANUSHTEGINID DYNASTY OF THE KHWARAZMSHAHS: CAUSES OF RISE AND DECLINE

Abstract

This article analyzes the formation, political rise, and causes of the decline of the Anushteginid Khwarazmshah dynasty (1097–1231)on the basis of historical sources and modern scholarly research. The study comparatively examines the works of medieval authors such as an-Nasawi, Juvayni, and Rashid al-Din, as well as the research of Eastern and Western scholars and approaches found in Uzbek historiography. The article highlights the establishment of a centralized state system by the Anushteginid dynasty, the growth of its economic and military power, and the processes of decline caused by internal political conflicts and external invasions, particularly the Mongol conquest. Furthermore, it evaluates the role of the Khwarazmshah state in the history of Central Asia and analyzes its civilizational significance.
